Ah, fishing in the rain. You may not like the rain, but the fish sure love it! You may not believe it, but you may catch more fish while it is raining. There are a few good logical reasons for this. First, when it rains, the worms come out... and naturally, many of those worms along with other bugs get washed into the water. The fish know this and react by feeding. The underwater world erupts into a feeding frenzy, especially if it hasn't rained for a while. Another reason is that oxygen levels rise from the rain hitting the water, which increases fish activity levels....

Want To Catch More Fish At Night, Watch the Moon! Sounds like a crazy idea, doesn't it? I thought so to, until I experienced it first hand. Using the moon, you are able to learn several things about fish at night. During a full moon, you are most likely to find fish hiding in the shadows. Don't ask why it's true, but that's what we have seen. When you find shadows on the water (from trees, etc), you know exactly where you need to cast your line. If the moonlight is not shining down on the water and there are no shadows, the fish will be much more scattered in the water, making your job of finding them much more difficult....

I was laying down on the bow of the boat gazing at the brilliant stars on this moonless night. All of the rods were set out, staggered by depths and distance away from the boat. As we all were enjoying ourselves on this night away from the anxieties of life, we listened to the clickers make there familiar tunes as the waves picked us up and put us back down. I prefer to keep to keep the drags loose, clickers on and then tighten up after the strike. All of the rods sounded alike going click,--- click,--- click....

I started keeping a fishing calendar this past year. My thinking was that I would somehow get to fish more. I was applying the business proverb of "that which gets measured gets done". Apparently this doesn't work as well on the home front. Actually, MOST of the leadership tactics I bring home from work become useless when they pass between my lot lines. Kind of a Bermuda Triangle of management principles I'd say. I'll share more on this once I fully understand the phenomenon.
