• Fly Fishing Small Streams

Picture this; you've spent some time hiking into a small stream inthe back country. It's early morning, mist is rising and the midgesthat have been swarming around you are breakfast for the small brownsyou have come to catch. You quietly walk up to the stream, watching the swirls of rising fish. You tie a nymph onto your leader and stepinto the water. A trout skids away from under your feet, its flight sending outwarning signals as bright as any neon light. The feeding fish flee in response and you are left with a section of river devoid of all but themidges....

Tips To Getting Sponsored For Fishing Tournaments

One of the most important steps in getting sponsored to fish tournaments (whether you fish for bass, walleye, crappie, musky, redfish, marlin, etc.) is to focus on what YOU CAN DO for your sponsor not what your sponsor can do for you. When trying to obtain sponsorship from a company, first make a list of the things you could provide for your sponsor. Put yourself in the potential sponsors shoes. Does he want to give you money so you can fish? More than likely he or she doesn't want to do that. No matter what type of business you are contacting for sponsorship, they want to know what's in it for me!...

Something Is Buzzing And Its Not Bees

We all have used buzz baits and we know why the bass like them right? It's because of that little stream of water. Wrong! It's the sound! Yep, sound attracts the bass then sight. Bass has exceptional hearing and sound travels 5 times faster in the water than in air. On the other hand water isn't a good conductor for light waves. Since only a few of your casts land by a fish, using a lure like a buzz bait that produces sound is a good thing. Cast that buzz bait in the same location a few times and let the bass hone in on it....

    Lake Trout On The Fly

The name Lake Trout lends a slight misnomer to the actual species of this incredible fish that is actually not a trout at all, but a char. The Lake Trout resides in some of the most spectacular places on earth and the trip that spurred this article is no exception. The Newhalen River, near Iliamna Alaska, is where this trip took place and the intention was to land some nice early season Rainbows. Although Rainbows were indeed landed the Lake trout took center stage as they fed in frenzies on the tiny smolt that were venturing out into the currents for the first time....

Social Robotic Fish in Fish Farms

We have a problem in our fish farms, especially Salmon. You see for 500 plus million years the Salmon spawn up river and then swim down to the ocean grow real big and swim all the way back and lay their eggs. It is a great cycle indeed. It works for them and very well. Unfortunately for them they taste very good to us. We in fact have been over fishing them and they are one of California's favorite Sushi fish. Yep, I myself agree, more salmon please. When we put them in fish farms to grow they do not get the exercise they need to grow big and strong, so we need to give them exercise to fulfill their genetic needs and desires and to grow big and strong....

    Selecting the Right Tackle

One of the most important things to consider when fly fishing is choosing your tackle the right way. Many people overlook this important factor and start with the wrong assumptions. They first buy the rod, then the line to match the rod, then the reel and then they buy the flies they will need to fish. The fact is the flies are the most important in determining weather or not you will be catching any fish. The tackle selection process should go as follows: First you must select the correct flies that you will be using to catch the type of fish you will be attempting to catch....

    Back To Fish School....Baitfish 101

Class Is In Session.... Baitfish 101 Okay. So you would think that in this information age we fishermen and fisherwomen would have all the knowledge of baitfishing at our fingertips. Evidently, some of us have been slow to enter this information age, so as a public service I am going to pass along some rather "common sense" information that apparently isn't being absorbed by the fishing world. This information is being sent, with the hope that if 200 people read this article and then they tell 200 people and so on and so forth, maybe, just maybe enough people will get the message....

    Photographing Your Trophy Fish

When it comes to catch and release lakes, it is important for you to be ready to catch your fish, take a prize-winning shot and release your giant back into the water for others to enjoy. Before setting out on your trophy trout fishing trip with your fishing partner or guide, keep these few photo tips in mind. Bring along a good, reliable camera. It doesn't matter if it is digital or 35 mm, but make sure it has an automatic focus feature. Most casual photographers don't need the pressure of adjusting settings, so an automatic camera is a good choice....

    North to Alaska

For many fishermen Alaska is the ultimate "mecca" of fishing. Early childhood dreams of Salmon choked rivers and Bears of every shape and size basking in the sun, their bellys full of fish - and the occasional "slow" fisherman - help to fuel the vision that is Alaska. The north country. The place where even a blind man can catch a fish. At least I hope so, because after forty-seven years of talking about it, buying books on it, watching videos and saying "next year"-- the time has come for me to make my Alaskan pilgramage....

    Rock Fishing Techniques

Many shore anglers avoid fishing rock marks because they are scared of losing tackle. However, very few marks are totally unfishable, and often the most effective rigs for fishing rough ground marks are also the most basic. Before fishing any shore mark, rough ground marks in particular, it is a good idea to visit the area at low water. The best time to go is at low water on a spring tide, when much of the ground that you will later be fishing over will be uncovered. Look for features like gullies, weed beds, or patches of sand sandwiched between kelp beds....
